BC Salmon Fishing

One of the most popular types of fish in British Columbia is salmon. This fish can grow from 30 to 70 pounds, making it one of the most prized catches in fishing. This is why a number of people focus their trips on salmon alone. In relation to this, there are a few guidelines which fishers can follow to have a great chance of a successful BC salmon fishing trip.

First, fishers should explore the areas where fish can be found. This approach is often overlooked, although it obviously gives good results. Most resorts have strategic locations throughout BC and are above the main salmon runs that are passing through the coast of the province.

Second, they need to often inspect their bait and check it for any presence of seaweed. They should see to it that their bait contains a lot of scales in it as these things increase visibility and add flash. Next, they have to check if their bait still properly turns.

Third, fishers need to focus on their rod at all times. Salmons are large fishes but they have unpredictably subtle and delicate "strikes."

Lastly, they must set their hook as hard as possible once a salmon bites the bait. They need to reel their rod tip downward until it reaches the surface of the water, and with a quick strong motion, they must point their rod tip to the sky. Fishers should be aware that this move usually sends the hook deep within the mouth of the prospective catch, making it very angry. They should also remember to keep their rod tip in an upward position within the time of the struggle to maintain pressure on the gear.
